Inescapable Pursuit

Psalm 139:7-12: Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence? If I ascend to heaven You are there; if I make my bed in hell, behold You are there. If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there Your hand shall lead me, and Your right hand shall still hold me. If I say, “Surely, the darkness shall fall on me,” even the night shall be light about me; indeed, the darkness shall not hide from You; but night shines as the day; the darkness and the light are both alike to You.

·         Inescapable pursuit: Jesus said, “No man comes to the Father, but by Me,” the Apostle John says, “We love him, because he first loved us.”  That tells us God is the Initiator, Pursuer, and the One who wins our affections with His Agape Love. The LORD over all creation is so in love with you He seeks you out…

o   The prophet Jonah is a picture of God’s pursuing love. He purses both Jonah and Ninevah
o   Nineveh is evil, wicked to the core but God has mercy and wants to forgive them
o   Jonah is hard hearted and rebellious, filled with bitterness
o   Each of the apostles was called in their own profession or habit
o   The woman at the well was rejcted by everyone except Jesus
o   God follows after all of them, uniquely, patiently, and precisely
o   And He follows after us too….think back to when you first responded to His pursuing love…
o   Thank Him for never giving up and ask Him to give you the resolve to keep lovingly chasing the lost in your path.

Romans 8:31-39: What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things… Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword… Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
